Scuffle between woman pilgrims and cop in Badrinath

Dehra Dun, Jun 10: Traders of Badrinath area today closed their shops demanding suspension of a police constable alleging he had misbehaved with a woman pilgrim in the temple area.

District Magistrate of Chamoli Neeraj Semwal said a woman pilgrim was trying to move forward breaking the long queue for a ‘darshan’ of Lord Badrinath and when the police constable stopped her from doing so, there was an alleged altercation and scuffle between the two.

The family members of the woman alleged the constable beat her up while the constable charged the woman had jumped the queue resulting in a sort of stampede, Semwal said.

Local traders downed the shutters of their shops and demanded immediate suspension of the policeman alleging that his “misbehaviour” is spoiling the holy atmosphere of the shrine area.

However, the darshan at the temple continued without any interruption, the DM said.
