New Delhi, July 10: A husband can be convicted for cruelty on wife only if it is proved that the accused’s harassment of the victim for unlawful demands provoked her to attempt suicide or cause injury to her life, the Supreme Court has said.
On the other hand, if the husband has neglected or ignored his wife, the same would not constitute an offence of cruelty as defined under Section 498A, 498B of the IPC, a bench of Justices B S Chauhan and Mukundakam Sharma said.
