Hyderabad, April 22: Journalists ’ unions have urged Chief Minister K Rosaiah to scrap the order posting IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu as Vijayawada Police Commissioner.
A delegation of journalists’ unions met Rosaiah on Wednesday and registered their protest with him for posting Anjaneyulu to Vijayawada despite the Press Council of India (PCI) indicting him for being responsible for the brutal lathicharge against journalists during Telangana agitation on Osmania University Campus on Feb 14 and 15.
The delegation pointed out that the government action (in posting Anjaneyulu as Vijayawada Police Commissioner), will encourage the police ofrce to target media persons in future.
The delegation also urged the chief minister to ensure payment of compensation to the journalists whose vehicles, cameras and cell phones were damaged in the police `vandalism.’ The delegation comprised: D Amar (APUWJ), K Amarnath (IJU), Y Narender Reddy (APUWJ), C Janardhan (AP Electronic Media Journalists’ Association) After giving a patient hearing, the chief minister told the delegation that he would look into the recommendations of the PCI and take a decision by tomorrow afternoon. “If the order is not scrapped by then, we will decide our future course of action,’’ a member of the delegation said, later.
