Scrap VAT on Textiles or Face Music: KCR Warns Govt

TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao here on Tuesday warned the State government that it would face severe consequences if it failed to withdraw VAT on textiles forthwith.

The TRS supremo has turned up at the dharna camp organized by the cloth merchants associations at the Indira Park and expressed his solidarity with the striking cloth merchants in the State.

Speaking on the occasion, KCR said the industries were being shut down due to the acute power cuts severely affecting the livelihood of industrial workers. He said the Congress government in the State was solely responsible for all the ills due to its gross inefficiency and lack of foresightedness. Expressing surprise over the Andhra Pradesh government alone imposing VAT on textiles in the entire country, he said his party would take the government to the task on the floor of the House.

The TRS president also demanded that the ministers in the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet exert pressure on the Chief Minister to scrap VAT on textiles. (NSS)
