Kolkata: Claiming that there was inconsistency in Trinamool Congress supported Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s age mentioned in his affidavit for the coming polls and the one he filed 12 years back, the CPI-M on Wednesday demanded scrapping of his candidature.
Alleging that Singhvi’s forms were not properly filled, Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate Rabin Deb said a letter has been sent to the Election Commission on the issue.
“We have sent a letter to the Election Commission detailing our allegation. There is incongruity between the affidavits he has filed for the coming election as also the one he filed 12 years back,” he said.
However, the Returning Officer Jayanta Kolay said he was unaware of any such incongruity.
Six candidates, including Singhvi, are vying for the election to five RS seats from West Bengal.
The election is slated to be held on March 23.
Apart from Deb and Singhvi, there are four Trinamool Congress candidates – – Nadimul Haque, Subhasish Chakraborty, Abir Biswas and Santanu Sen.
