Scrap articles 370, 35A: Former SC Judge Santosh Hegde

Hyderabad: Former Judge of Supreme Court of India, Mr. N. Santosh Hegde told that articles 370 and 35A should be scrapped which accord Special Status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to newsmen in Hyderabad yesterday, Mr. Hegde told that these articles accord special status to Jammu and Kashmir which are in violation to Constitution of India. He further told that in 1948, when Maharaja of Kashmir, Mr. Hari Singh had agreed to merge Kashmir with Indian Union, certain assurances were given to people of Kashmir through these articles. At that the situation was different. In the changed circumstances, it is not possible to continue these articles.

He also told that if Kashmir is an integral part of India, it cannot hold special status different from other states.

He expressed the views that these articles are creating problems for the internal security of the country. It is therefore, necessary that they should be scrapped.
