SCR takes over catering services

Hyderabad, October 29: As per the new catering policy formulated by the Railway Board, the South Central Railway has taken over catering service on trains from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to improve the quality of food served on trains and platforms.

The new system is being experimented on AP Express in the zone. The SCR has taken several initiatives to monitor the on-board catering services.

MS Jayanth, general manager,SCR, inspected the pantry car, on-board catering services for passengers and various passenger amenities in the AP Express.

A catering inspector has been deputed for AP Express who travels every day from Hyderabad to New Delhi and back, to monitor the catering services on board.

He also interacts with the passengers to get their feedback personally.

These feedback forms are analysed in the SCR headquarters and steps will be taken to improve the services.

The SCR has also introduced regional cuisine in the train. Waste disposal is yet another area where the SCR is focussing by providing garbage bins in the coaches to enable proper disposal of waste.

The standard of both quality and quantity of tea and coffee has also been improved.

A considerable improvement has been recorded after the catering services were taken over by the SCR from the IRCTC, it is learnt.
