Hyderabad, October 07: The South Central Railway is all set to restore the disrupted train services in its region by October 15. Addressing a press conference here today, Union Minister of State for Railways KH Muniyappa said that due to floods SCR had incurred a loss of Rs 25 crore. “Repair works costing Rs 10 crore would be undertaken on a war-footing so that the trains services could be restored as soon as water recedes in the Guntakal- Raichur-Wadi section,’’ Muniyappa said, recalling that the magnitude of floods in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka was the highest in 50 years.
He said Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee told all railway zones to transport relief material free of cost.
Elaborating on the disruption of SCR train services in the two States, he said, “In all, 155 services were fully cancelled, 104 partially cancelled and 112 trains were diverted between October 2 and October 9 affecting 4.8 lakh passengers.
Train services to Raichur, Mantralayam, Nandyal and Kurnool were affected the most,’’ he said.
The revenue loss during October 2 to 5 due to disruption of rail traffic is Rs 12.5 crore _ Rs 10 cr on freight traffic and Rs 2.5 crore on passenger traffic.
General Manager Kuldeep Chaturvedi, Additional General Manager SK Sharma and CPRO Chandrima Roy were present.
