SCR GM holds video-conference

Hyderabad, July 07: South Central Railway (SCR) general manager MS Jayanth held a video- conference with all principal heads of departments and divisional railway managers of six divisions of SCR on Linen Management.

For supply of decent bedrolls to passenger on AC coaches the general manager outlined measures such as replacement of wornout bedrolls and induction of new stocks in a big way, strengthening the inspection mechanism to enforce quality processing and use of proper consumables at the laundries.

“Well-formulated inspections’’ by senior officers on trains, punitive measures against defaulting washing agencies, strengthening infrastructure like storage for washed linen, mechanised handling equipment and deployment of adequate number of inspectorial staff to enforce on-site inspections at laundries were some of the measures Jayanth suggested for adoption.

In addition, the SCR is setting up departmentally- run linen-washing plants at Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Tirupati soon. It is also planning to set up a mega linen-washing plant on `build, own, operate & transfer’ (BOOT) basis, the bids for which will be called shortly. With these short-term and long term measures, there will be qualitative improvement in the bedrolls supplied on trains operated by SCR.
