SCR GM asks staff to avoid any scope for accidents

South Central Railway General Manager PK Srivastava released the Safety Bulletin, brought out by the Headquarters Safety department, at Rail Nilayam here on Thursday. The Bulletin contains details of unusual incidents occurred on the Zone in the recent past and also safety guidelines on various aspects of train working. This safety bulletin is being widely circulated amongst the field staff to enhance their safety awareness.

In this connection, Srivastava expressed confidence that this bulletin would go a long way in eliminating any scope for unusual incidents on the Zone as it explains various unsafe incidents that happened recently, their causes, rules violated and suggestions/recommendations for the benefit of all the safety category staff on SCR. The GM emphasized that utmost priority should be given to safety in train working, aimed to prevent the occurrence of any accident.

Earlier, Sunil Kumar Agarwal, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway gave away ‘Man of the Month’ award for the months October-2013 to January-2014 to 73 SCR employees in recognition of their safety conscious working, alertness and dedication to duty in noticing defects and prompt action in getting them rectified which resulted in averting possible unusual occurrence. SP Sahu, Chief Safety Officer, SCR, K.P. Somkuwar, Chief Mechanical Engineer, SCR, Safety Officers from the Divisions and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal lauded the awardees for their vigilant working and exhorted the safety category staff to have in depth knowledge of their work & related rules and a commitment to perform their duties in a fully safe manner so that train accidents can be brought down to zero level.

The defects noticed by these awardees include rail failure, weld failure, jerk, defective level crossing gate, Hot axle and smoke in the wagon / coach etc. These awardees were selected from the list of employees recommended by the Divisional Railway Managers of the six Divisions of SCR. Out of these 73 awardees, 20 are Loco Pilots, 07 are Assistant Loco Pilots, 08 are Deputy Station Managers, 04 are Train Guards, 06 are Pointsmen, 12 are Night Patrolmen, 13 are Engineering Gatemen and 03 are Carriage & Wagon Technicians.

The ‘Man of the Month’ Award at Zonal level is given in order to recognize the meritorious work done by field staff in promptly identifying unsafe conditions and other unusual situations on running trains, track and level crossings gates etc. These awards help boost the morale of the employees and also in spreading awareness on safety issues amongst the staff.
