SCR creates record in freight operations

Hyderabad, April 02: The South Central Railway has created a record in freight operations for the financial year 2010-11 by loading 96.08 million tonnes, which is 10.18 million tonnes more than last year.

Last year it handled a loading of 85.9 million tonnes. The SCR also surpassed the target set for it by the Railway Board by 1.68 million tonnes, according to a press release.

The commercial, engineering and operations departments of SCR have been awarded the all-India shields, which will be presented by the Union Railway Minister during the Railway Week Awards function on April 16 at Mumbai, the release added.

SCR had also transported 48.69 million tonnes coal which was five million tonnes more than last year. There had also been an increase of 29.2 per cent in fertilizer loading, 13.9 per cent in cement loading and 3.1 per cent in food grains loading compared to last year.

The SCR could achieve these milestones despite frequent disruption to traffic caused by various agitations and natural calamities.
