SCR collects Rs 65 Cr fine from ticketless passengers

The South Central Railway has detected about 19.96 lakh cases of ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage during the period from April to November 2014 and collected Rs 65 crore towards fine from the violators.

Of 2.55 lakh cases detected in November, 82,396 cases were of travel without ticket; 86,443 cases of irregular travel and 85,648 cases of un-booked luggage. Irregular travel includes traveling on transferred ticket, adults traveling on child ticket, non senior citizen travelling on senior citizen tickets, general/season ticket holder traveling in reserved coaches etc. An amount of Rs. 8.46 Cr. was realized from these ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage cases towards penalty which is 19 per cent higher when compared to the penalty realized in November, 2013.

Cumulatively, during the period from April to November, 2014, 19.96 lakh cases were apprehended. These include 6.17 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 7.08 lakh cases of irregular travel and 6.71 lakh cases of un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 65.04 Cr. was realized from these offenders towards penalty which is 17.5 per cent higher when compared to the penalty realized during same period of the last financial year.

The surprise checks carried out by the flying squads of the Divisions and head quarters and fortress checks conducted under direct supervision senior officials of SCR at major stations helped reduce ticketless travel. (INN)
