SCR to begin work on bridge parallel to Lakdi-ka-pul soon

Hyderabad, January 13: The South Central Railways will soon begin work to construct a bridge besides the existing Lakdi-ka-pul bridge.

The money for the construction, Rs 9 crore will be given by the state government while the Railways will carry out the construction work on the bridge which is to come up on the south of the existing bridge.

This would go a long way in easing the traffic flow.

According to GHMC additional Commissioner K Dhanunjaya Reddy, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board will shift the pipeline which is running adjacent to the proposed site of the bridge. This pipeline has been the major hurdle in the going ahead of the project.

The parallel bridge will be 120 metre long and 10.5 metre wide with three lanes. It would begin at the Police Intelligence Office and culminate at the Ayodhya Junction.

The land in which the Intelligence Office is house will be acquired, as well as some private property.

The existing bride is about 27 feet wide, leading to traffic snarls at one of the busiest roads in the city.

An estimated four lakh vehicles pass through the existing bridge, which connects areas like Red Hills, Mehdipatnam, Gachchibowli, Masab Tank and Banjara Hills.

Earlier, the police had made the existing bridge one-way, but the attempt to ease traffic flow did not quite meet the desired results due to the huge increase in the number of vehicles. (INN)
