Hyderabad, April 24: The South Central Railway has bagged the highest number of All-India Efficiency Shields during 55th Railway Week celebrations.
Union Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee presented the awards to meritorious staff and officers at a function held in Delhi yesterday. Ef ficiency shields were given away for the best-performing zonal railway for the previous year.
This year SCR has been awarded the maximum number of ef ficiency shields. Of the 16 departmental shields, four have been awarded to SCR for excellence in mechanical engineering, signal & telecom engineering, civil engineering and store mangement.
SCR’s Rajbhasha department has also bagged a shield.
The performance of mechanical engineering department has been outstanding in ensuring high reliability of locomotives: an average of only two failures for every 1,000 engines compared to an all-India average of five locos per 1,000. There was a record out-turn of both coaches and wagons from the workshops.
The civil engineering department has been adjudged the most efficient due to the massive track restoration work carried out in the shortest possible time during the floods in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in October 2009 and also for the large number of track renewals done to ensure safety.
SCR general manager MS Jayanth, along with chief mechanical engineer PC Gajbhiye, chief of signal & telecom Anand Kumar, principal chief engineer Pradeep Kumar and chief stores superintendent Mahesh Chandra, received the shields from the minister.
