NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and heir of Royal Scindia family has been winning Guna Lok Sabha seat since the independence but surprisingly loss to BJP candidate Dr. Krishna Pal Singh Yadav.
The more humiliating part is the AICC general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia loss the family bastion to Yadav, a former Congress worker who had worked under him.
Yadav, an Ayurvedic physician by profession hails from Ashoknagar, who was once Scindia’s fan and whose family also had deep ties with Congress.
Yadav left the party after being denied ticket from Mungaoli. And when Dr. Yadav joined the BJP, the 48-year-old ‘Maharaj’ and his wife Priyadarshini Raje mocked him.
Reportedly, Priyadarshini who led his campaign in Guna for Scindia had downplayed Yadav’s candidature and arrogantly commented he was no match for the Congress stalwart.
“Those who earlier lined up to click selfies with the ‘Maharaj’ are now BJP candidate,” mocked Raje.
Everyone considered Yadav as a weak candidate considering the dominance of Scindia family in Guna. But the Royals failed and the BJP’s candidate ended up polling 6,14,049 votes, while Scindia only managed 4,88,500 on the ground.
Yadav defeated Scindia by a margin of 1,25,549 votes.
Also, caste barriers fell in, that help Yadav clinches a victory and dynasties became the second casualty in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Guna Lok Sabha constituency has been the bastion of the Scindia family. For the past three terms, Scindia has been winning from this seat since 2002 bye-election.
Late Madhav Rao Scindia, Jyotiraditya’s father had won from the seat in the 1999 election. Before that, Scindia’s grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia, the first member of the family to enter politics held the seat on BJP ticket four times from 1989 to 1998.
