Scientists eliminate HIV from mouse cells with enzyme

In a major breakthrough, German scientists have managed to identify and eradicate HIV-infected mouse cells with the help of a new enzyme, dubbed ‘molecular scissors’, with 90 percent accuracy.

According to the Local, the research team at the Dresden University of Technology had created the enzyme that gets inside the DNA double helix, cuts it up and rearranges it in a new, HIV-free pattern, the New York Daily News reported. Professor Joachim Hauber of Heinrich Pette Institute in Hamburg said that the amount of virus in mouse cells was clearly reduced, and even no longer to be found in the blood. Hauber said that there are various methods and similar approaches to get rid of HIV infection, but removing the virus from infected cells is unique. (ANI)
