Schools to remain closed for two days after fresh tremors in Nepal

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered all schools to remain shut for the next two days as a precautionary step after fresh tremors were felt in Nepal and parts of north India.

“On orders of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, all schools will be shut on April 27 and 28. All schools affiliated to CBSE, ICSE and the UP board have been given these orders. From the point of view of security, we have decided to act upon these orders,” said Pradeep Kumar Divedi, an official of the education department in Faizabad.

The death toll from the devastating earthquake, which hit Nepal and northern parts of India on Saturday, climbed over 2,100 today even as the rescue efforts intensified in search of the survivors.

Fresh tremors were felt across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam earlier in the day after an earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit the east of Kathmandu

The massive earthquake and the aftershocks left behind a trail of death and destruction in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu as well as parts of India. (ANI)
