Ludhiana, Dec 05: In view of the prevailing tension in the city following the clashes between the migrants, and the police, the schools and colleges in the city will remain closed tomorrow. This directive was issued by the deputy commisioner, Vikas Garg today.
Meanwhile because of the disquiet triggered by the clashes, the district administration imposed curfew in sensitive areas falling under division numbers 6 and 7 police stations today before noon. And as the news of curfew spread in the city, the parents of wards studying in different schools got worried about their children and started making phone calls, while many reached the schools and brought back the children from schools.
Preetinder Kaur, a mother of two children, said, “We live near Jamalpur and the curfew was imposed after the children went to school. I became very tense about the safety of my children. I requested the school authorities and brought back the kids before 1 pm.”
It was observed that many parents, whose children return home by vans, were also anxious. Suman Sharma, a home-maker, said, “A vegetable seller told me that the protesters had also blocked Sidhwan canal bridge for some time. I immediately called up the van driver of my daughter to ensure that my daughter was dropped back home safely.”
Meanwhile, many parents kept asking the school authorities if there would be holiday tomorrow because of the ongoing tension. But district administration did not issue any instructions about it till late in the evening. Amritapal, a van driver, said, “All the van drivers have decided not to provide van service tomorrow so as to avoid any unsavoury incident.”
