Mumbai: A schoolboy drowned off Girgaum beach in south Mumbai while another boy was still missing.
Their two friends were rescued.
Atharva Kharatmol (15), Dhiraj Lokare (16), Abhishek Kokan (16) and Aniket (14), all residents of Basaveshwar Nagar in Dharavi area here, were visiting the beach last evening and entered the sea for a swim, but soon began to drown.
Some people on the beach alerted the fire brigade and the police. The fire brigade personnel rescued Abhishek and Aniket, but Atharva and Dhiraj were swept away into deep waters.
A team of Navy divers was roped in and Atharva’s body was recovered late in the evening. Dhiraj however remained missing even as the search operation was stopped this afternoon, D B Nagar police said.
