Porayar (TN), December 05: The driver of the school van that plunged into a pond near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district on December 3, killing nine children and a teacher, surrendered before a local court in Nagapattinam town today.
Mahendran (25) surrendered before Judicial Magistrate II, Kothandaraman, who remanded him to judicial custody till December 18. He has been sent to Tiruchirapalli Central prison, police said.
Some eyewitnesses to the accident had alleged that Mahendran was talking on his cellphone while driving.
