Thirty-four school girls attended a week-long skiing camp aimed at acclimatizing people from plains to the climatic conditions of hilly areas here in Shimla.
The High Altitude Trekking and Skiing Centre in Narkanda town in Shimla organised this week-long adventure camp for students, which concluded on Monday.
The instructors at the winter sports camp believe the basic course of snow skiing is meant to encourage and develop adventure ability among the girls. This training will help in combating the adversities of a snow covered zone while increasing the self stamina and ability to fight.
“This is basically a winter sport. The students are from MDU (Maharishi Dayanand University) Girls School. It is an elementary course where within seven days students have been trained to equip with snow climbing and skiing,” said an instructor, Santosh Kainthala.
He also added people from age five to 58 are eligible for the training.
The girls at the camp were glad to participate in the adventure sport.
“This sport is very important. It is a different kind of sport that we had never tried before and as an adventure also it is very pivotal. It teaches us that in any situation survival is crucial. We should know how to skate,” said a participant, Anita.
Shimla is well-known for winter sports like snow trekking, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice climbing and others. (ANI)
