Scholarships: A welcome option?

Educational institutions want to make sure that nothing remains unachievable, as they design unique scholarship programmes for their students. But, students feel that the amount offered under scholarships is often too less than what is actually needed.

Education is becoming costlier. Forget about IIMs, students are even finding it difficult to bear the cost of an average institute. But, for those who want to study at premium institutes at a less cost, scholarships can be a big relief. In many cases, scholarships act like a lifeline for students. Last year, the University of Rajasthan had increased the scholarship amount for meritorious students from Rs1,000 to Rs 2,000 per year.

Similarly, LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT) and Central University of Rajasthan also provide scholarships to its meritorious students.

“Scholarship is a way to recognise students’ talent and boost his confidence and it also motivates others to emulate them. So, from the next academic session, the university has decided to give Rs 1,000 scholarship to its three meritorious students of each programme for 10 months,” said MM Salunkhe, vice-chancellor, Central University of Rajasthan.
