SCB plans health insurance for employees

Hyderabad, April 04: Worried over the increasing medical reimbursement bills, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is planning to provide health insurance for its employees.

Last year, the Board had incurred an expenditure of about Rs. 25 lakhs towards reimbursing medical claims for employees, who had undergone treatment for various diseases. In the last three months, 10 employees of the Board had expired due to ill health.

Over 650 employees are working in the SCB under different cadres. Medical reimbursement bills worth nearly Rs. 7 lakh are already pending. Hospital managements, where the employees were treated were demanding reimbursement, said SCB Chief Executive Officer C. Ravindra.

More than the money factor, the health insurance was proposed as an employee welfare measure.

Employees, in case of ill health, were visiting SCB doctors and based on their recommendations, they were getting treatment at different hospitals. This was a cumbersome process and once they got insured, things would get much easier, said Mr. Ravindra. National Insurance Company Limited authorities approached the SCB recently. Of, the 653 employees, 177 were categorised as Class III and 476 employees as Class IV.
