Hyderabad, April 20: Cracking the whip on the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials for allowing unauthorised constructions in the Cantonment area, the CBI on Tuesday raided the SCB office and eight other places in the City and seized incriminating documents.
The searches were conducted after registering cases against senior officials of the SCB, including its CEO under various Sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI took up the case following allegations that the SCB officials had conspired with builders and allowed illegal constructions in the Cantonment area. Cases have been registered against CEO of the SCB C Ravindra, five engineering officials and also against two private builders and other unknown persons.
“We have conducted searches at nine places, including the SCB office and seized several incriminating documents,” Deputy Inspector General, CBI, V V Lakshmi Narayana said. Apart from the SCB office, the searches were reportedly conducted at the houses of the officials and private builders. CBI officials said the SCB officials were hand in glove with the builders who constructed several structures in the Cantonment area in violation of rules and regulations.
Besides the builders, who constructed high-rise structures, some private persons have also constructed houses by encroaching upon the Cantonment land in collusion with the SCB officials, the CBI sleuths said.
Cases under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) and 420 (cheating) and also under 13 (2) read with 13 (1) ( c) and (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 have been registered against the SCB CEO, other officials and the private builders and persons.
