Several scams came to fore during the past few years in Maulana Azad National Urdu University but officials tried to keep them under wraps but recently another scam worth lakhs of rupees came to the fore in Department of Distance Education after which the Director of Department of Distance Education (counted among the confidante of Vice Chancellor) was sent to long leave so as to prevent the scam from coming to fore.
According to reliable sources of the university, the scam came to fore in connection with publication of syllabus books. In the beginning the scam was estimated to be 85 lakh however after intervention of high officials it is being shown as 17. 5 lakhs. Sources said that Distance education officials handed over the contract of publication of books to a publisher belonging to other state and the books were published paying a whopping sum.
Embezzlement of lakhs of rupees was done in the dealing.
Auditors while auditing the university account pointed out the embezzlement of 85 lakhs of rupees and sought clarification. However high officials immediately sprung into action and somehow succeeded slashing the amount to 17.5 lakh.
