SC voices concern over reported starvation deaths in

New Delhi, March 29: The Supreme Court today expressed concern over a media report about starvation death of six adivasis in the Morpalli village of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district and asked its officials to visit the area and give a report.

Morpalli was in news over allegations that security forces allegedly burnt 34 village homes and granaries, sexually assaulted two women and killed a man on March 11.

A bench comprising justices Dalveer Bhandari and Deepak Verma asked the commissioner appointed by it to visit the area along with the collector of the district and submit a report.

Counsel for Chattisgarh government Atul Jha submitted that the media report was wrong and it would be premature for the court to take action based on it.

Rejecting the argument, the bench said, “It may be totally wrong or right… Let them go and find the status.
