New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday said that it will pass orders to suspend the implementation of three contentious farm laws until further orders. The SC bench also ordered for a Committee to hold talks between the protesters and the Central Government.
“We are going to suspend the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders. Secondly, we are also constituting a committee”, said S A Bobde, Chief Justice of India (CJI), today while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Farm Laws/ seeking removal of protesting farmers from Delhi borders.
The apex court’s bench recommended names of Jitender Singh Maan, President of Bharatiya Kisaan Union; Dr. Pramod Kumar Joshi, International policy head; Ashok Gulati, Agricultural Economist, Anil Dhanvat, Shivkeri Sangathna, Maharashtra and like to be the members of the committee. The committee will hear concerns from both Centre and the farmers’ unions protesting against the laws and seek to break the deadlock.
“We believe in the Committee and we are going to constitute it. This Committee will be the part of judicial proceedings”, the SC bench said. The bench also comprises Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian.
On Monday, the SC expressed its inclination to stay the implementation of the controversial laws in hopes that this would help broker peace between the Government and the protestors, who may air their grievances before a court-appointed Committee.
