The All India Lawyers’ Forum for Social Justice has demanded that the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments appoint advocates belonging to weaker sections in the posts of Advocate General, Government Pleaders, Assistant Government Pleaders and Standing Counsels in the government corporations.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the Lawyers’ Forum for Social Justice demanded that the governments ensure social justice in these appointments, otherwise, the BC, SC, ST advocates would go on warpath and paralyse functioning of the courts. The association leaders Krishna Devan, Bojja Tharakam, Singaiah, Nagula Srinivas Yadav, V. Ramakrishna and others alleged that the weaker section advocates were rendered great injustice from the time immemorial. Therefore, the Telangana and AP governments should at least now realize the mistake and do justice to the advocates of weaker sections, they said.
They further alleged that though the SC, ST and BC advocates constitute 20 per cent of 80% population of weaker sections, only the upper caste persons were being appointed as Advocates General and Additional Advocates General since the last 57 years and no chance was given to the weaker sections advocates because of their caste. This is nothing but social malady and atrocity, they felt.
Pointing out that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao recently announced that his government would allocate Rs 100 crores to the judiciary, the association leaders urged the government to spend half of the amount for welfare of the weaker sections’ advocates. They also urged AP CM Chandrababu Naidu to allot at least Rs 150 crores for welfare of these unfortunate advocates. In the wake of the decision to build separate capital city for the AP along with High Court, they urged Naidu to allocate a 200-acre site for the housing program of the SC, ST and BC advocates.
