SC slams butchers and Delhi Govt

New Delhi, November 18: Irked at the capital’s butchers and government battling out their dispute for over a decade and rushing to it frequently, the Supreme Court today came down heavily on the two parties and said the country’s highest court cannot supervise the row indefinitely.

The apex court said neither the butchers cannot hold Delhi to ransom by refusing to shift, nor can the government refuse to address their grievances.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice V S Sirpurkar while directing the butchers and others engaged in the slaughter house business to approach the authorities with their grievance, the bench warned that it can make the government “act” if it fails to discharge its duties.

“No question of consideration. You will do it. We will not brook any delay.
