New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to file a reply on the plea seeking the establishment of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in Delhi.
The apex court has asked the Centre to file its reply within one week.
The court had on April 9 asked the Centre as to why there was delay in setting up the SHRC in the national capital despite the AAP Government completing the necessary groundwork and sending the recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor.
The apex court had in July last year questioned why an SHRC had not been set up in Delhi, which witnessed the second largest number of rights violation cases and set a six-month deadline.
The court also directed the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland to set up SHRCs. (ANI)
