The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict on an application filed by former Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah, an accused in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, seeking permission to visit Gujarat for campaiging in the coming Assembly elections. A bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam reserved the verdict after hearing senior Counsel Ram Jethmalani appearing for Amit Shah and CBI Counsel. The CBI has opposed the application of Amit Shah, a close aide of Mr Narendra Modi, on the grounds that if he is allowed to enter Gujarat, the trial in the case shall not be fair and he would influence the witnesses. The apex court has banned the entry of Amit Shah in Gujarat. He is on bail and CBI has filed a petition for cancellation of his bail and also for shifting the case out of Gujarat. UNI
