SC Rejects Ponnala’s Review Petition Too

The review petition filed by IT Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah challenging the High Court’s verdict on his election was on Monday dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Perusing the petition, the Apex Court stated that the appellant should seek redressal in the High Court only as the petition was pending before it.

It may be mentioned here that Ponnala Lakshmaiah was declared elected on Congress ticket from the Jangaon constituency in Warangal district by a slender majority defeating TRS nominee Kommuri Pratapa Reddy. Challenging the election result, Pratapa Reddy filed a petition in the High Court complaining that 80 votes were irregularly added to Ponnala Lashmaian. Admitting the petition, the High Court had ordered a recounting of the votes.

Aggrieved by the High Court order, Ponnala had challenged the HC decision in the Supreme Court, which rejected it. He once again filed a review petition, which was also dismissed on Monday. (NSS)
