SC puts off hearing on uniform fee for engg colleges

New Delhi, February 01 (INN): A division bench of Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on petition on uniform fee structure for engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh to Thursday.

When the case came up before the apex court, the State’s Attorney General said that 63 college managements had submitted their proposals on uniform fee structure and still 59 college remained to submit their proposals. He sought time to produce a comprehensive study report on college managements to the court. Without this report, the court cannot take a decision on the issue and appealed it to give some more time.

With this the apex court postponed the hearing to Thursday.

Earlier, the state government assured the Supreme Court that it would work out a common fee structure based on the costs involved from the academic year 2012-13.

For this, the college managements have to submit audited accounts to the Admission and Fee Regulation Committee (AFRC) to fix the fee structure.

However, neither the colleges maintain the costs involved nor have they audited accounts of the faculty. Out of odd 600 colleges in the State, hardly 120 colleges came up with proposals for uniform fee structure and the remaining colleges are yet to make their stand clear. (INN)
