SC Notices to Mantris, Govt to bear legal expenses

The State government has agreed to extend legal assistance to four ministers, who were slapped with notices by the Supreme Court.

It may be mentioned here that ministers – Kanna Laxminarayana, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao and Dr J. Geeth Reddy – received the Supreme Court notices in connection with the issuance of controversial 26 GOs.

According to the GO, the four ministers informed the government that they have received notices from the Supreme Court in a petition for Special Leave to Appeal (crl) No. 1609 of 2012 filed by one Ponnavolu Sudhakara Reddy, who alleged that 26 GOs were issued against the public interest and to benefit a few persons. The aggrieved ministers urged the government to issue appropriate orders to provide Legal Assistance and reimbursement of Legal charges paid by them in the case.

Accordingly, the State government accorded permission to the ministers to engage Advocates exclusively for the SLP Case No. 1609/2012 filed before the Supreme Court. The R&B, Home, Agriculture, Industries and Commerce departments shall meet the expenditure in this regard, the GO added.
