SC gives 2 weeks to NIA to respond to Purohit’s bail plea

New Delhi, January 04: The Supreme Court today granted two weeks
time to National Investigating Agency (NIA) to respond to the
petition filed by former Lt Col Srikant Purohit seeking bail in the
2008 Malegaon bomb blast case.

A bench, comprising Justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad, issued
the directions after hearing counsel for NIA, who sought time
for filing counter-affidavit to the petition filed by the accused.
Purohit in his petition prayed for grant of bail on the grounds
that the investigation in the case is already over and it will
take long time for the trial to conclude.

The apex court had earlier dismissed the bail petition of
another accused Pragya Singh Thakur in the case.
