SC to fix compensation for Manikonda Wakf lands

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the orders of Andhra Pradesh High Court, which ruled that lands allotted to IT companies and real estate firms in the Manikonda area of the city are to be adjudicated by the Wakf Tribunal.

While disposing a petition in connection with the Lanco Hills project, the apex court observed that 1654.34 acres of land allotted to IT companies and real estate firms in the Manikonda area in Hyderabad belonged to the Wakf Board.

The State Government, in its petition before the apex court stated that the government was ready to pay compensation to Wakf Board for allowing constructions. After hearing the arguments, the court stated that it would fix the compensation and adjourned the petition for next hearing in the second week of August.

Earlier, a division bench of the AP High Court ruled that lands allotted to IT companies and real estate firms in the Manikonda area are to be adjudicated by the Wakf Tribunal. The bench dismissed the writ petitions filed by the State Government, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and some of the allottees of the prime land in the IT hub of the city.
