New Delhi: The Supreme Court today squashed FIR filed against the 18-year-old actress Priya Prakash Warrier and her movie director after her wink video song from the movie Oru Adaar love went viral taking social media by the storm.
The bench headed by CJI Mishra said hearing the case asked the Telangana Government: “Somebody in a film sings a song and you have no other job but to file a case,” DC reported.
Her wink video that went viral made the actress popular overnight. The video featuring her had a reference to Prophet Mohammad’s wife.
An FIR was filed against her in Hyderabad by a person claiming the song hurt religious sentiments of Muslims while a criminal complaint was also filed in Mumbai by few people who demanded the song to be taken down.
The actress had moved the apex court against the FIR filed against her.
In her appeal in SC Priya said the song was a traditional one sung by Muslims in north Kerala’s Malabar region which praises the love between the Prophet Mohammed and his first wife Khadeeja and “this has been misunderstood by the complainants.”
The apex court had then put on hold all criminal proceedings initiated against her on February 21, 2018.
