New Delhi: Anti-Muslim sentiments are so strong among the citizens of the country under Narendra Modi government at the centre that a petition was filed in Supreme Court seeking to send Muslims in India to Pakistan. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition, when it came up for hearing before the bench of Justices RF Nariman and Vineet Saran on Friday.
According to Bar & Bench, Justice Nariman asked the petitioner’s counsel “Do you really want to argue this? We will hear you but we will pass strictures against you.” The petitioner was dismissed as the petitioner’s counsel responded with a “no”.
It must be recalled that in December, Justice SR Sen of the Meghalaya High Court had said that “India should have become a Hindu country after Partition”. In February, a Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued notice the Meghalaya High Court registrar on a petition which sought the remarks be expunged.
