SC denies bail to former Jharkhand minister

New Delhi, December 04: The Supreme Court today rejected the bail plea of former Jharkhand minister Anos Ekka in connection with the disproportionate assets (DA) and money laundering cases lodged against him.

A Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and R M Lodha dismissed Ekka’s appeal against the order of the Jharkhand High Court which had disallowed his plea to be released on bail.

“We find no merits in the Special Leave Petitions (SLPs). The SLPs are accordingly dismissed,” the Bench said.

Ekka had sought bail in the DA case and an another case pertaining to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The two cases against Ekka are pending in the vigilance court and a special PMLA court respectively in Ranchi.

Ekka is contesting the state assembly elections. The vigilance court had allowed Ekka to file his nomination papers from the Kolebira constituency in Simdega district.
