SC-constituted panel to visit six mines in AP

New Delhi, December 15: A key committee constituted by the Supreme Court to suggest ways for environment protection will visit six controversial mines in Andhra Pradesh, mostly owned by Karnataka mining magnet Reddy brothers, next week, sources said today.

“The Central Empowered Committee, chaired by Chairman P V Jayakrishnan, today decided to visit six mines in Andhra Pradesh next week. The committee will most likely visit the mines on Tuesday (December 21),” said a source.

Mining operations by Reddy brothers’ Obulapuram Mining Corp in Andhra Pradesh has been stopped over alleged illegal mining in violation of the Forest Conservation Act.

The company has been fighting charges of illegal mining in forest lands on the Karnataka-AP border.
