SC asks NRAI to go back to Delhi HC on election case

New Delhi, February 16: The Supreme Court today asked the National Rifle Association of India to go back to Delhi High Court to challenge the decision of a lower court annulling the election of its office bearers.

The association had moved the apex court during the pendency of the matter before the High Court which had issued notice to one Raju Soni, on whose complaint the lower court had termed the NRAI elections invalid.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said since the lower court order has not been stayed, the NRAI could pursue the matter before the High Court.

Following this, NRAI preferred to withdraw its appeal and approach the High Court.

An additional session judge had last month held that election of NRAI was invalid on the grounds that they had flouted norms by contesting for the posts after completing two consecutive terms.
