The Special Branch, joint commissioner of police Y Nagi Reddy of Hyderabad claimed that they have achieved ‘zero pendency’ in passport verification. Reddy said we have verified 14,572 applications out of 14,640 from January 1 and currently there are no pending applications.
Though there are 52 applications have been put on hold which is pending with the passport verification cell, will be verified once the applicants desire to reinitiate the process, said Nagi Reddy. In 2012 the average time taken to verify the application was around 61 days; it came down to 12 days in 2015, added Reddy.
The SB police, who conduct passport verification in the limits of Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, verify more than one lakh passport applications every year.
The statistics with the SB shows that the number of applications has been consistent since 2012; however the average number of days to verify them has been reduced by the field officers for better enhancement.
