Hyderabad: Two girls hailing from Hayathnagar aged 16 yrs, were saved only just in time from getting married last year, proved their fortitude by passing their Intermediate with flying colours, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
K. Sandhya scored 92%, topped her college in CEC Stream, having 140 students in all whereas V.Sandhya scored 88%. Both the girls are from NRI Junior College, Vanasthalipuram, were classmates in Intermediate as well in their tenth from St.Joseph School, Turkayamjal, Hayatnagar, earlier.
Had the girls been married back then, they would have never got a chance to continue their studies.
V.Sandhya’s engagement was fixed on 3 April 2015, the day her Social Science Paper was scheduled. The girl was unwilling to leave her education and get married. Her friends came to her aid informing their teacher’s. A child Rights organisation interceded to stop the marriage. Achyut Rao of Balala Hakkula Sangham said they visited the girl’s house and warned the groom’s parents about marrying a minor girl, is a punishable offence in the eyes of law. He also said Ranga Reddy Collector also looked into the matter.
The girl’s interest made her reappear for the Social Paper-2 exam . Two weeks later, her father committed suicide hanging himself, as the neighbours made fun of him failing to marry off his girl, leaving the girl in deep shock, said the girl.
