‘Save my children’: Desperate mother threw baby from 10th floor of blazing Grenfell Tower

LONDON: In a bid to save their children, desperate parents threw them from burning Grenfell Tower shortly after the Wednesday dawn fire that engulfed the entire block, which contains 120 flats.

The whole thing was up in flames and people at their windows shouting and screaming “Save my children, save my children!” and started throwing them out of the windows, eyewitness narrated.

One witness Samira Lamrani, 38, told the Huffington Post of a baby that was thrown from 10th floor window miraculously escaped serious harm.

“There were screeches and somebody was gesturing that there was a lady at the window and as I looked up a lady was frantically gesturing and screaming, with her hands, from her body language, that she was about to throw the baby.

“She wrapped her baby in what seemed like a sheet or blanket and threw the young baby out of the window.

“A member of the public, a guy, ran forward and just miraculously grabbed the baby at the right moment and then the shadow, I assume of the mother, went backwards and that was the last we saw.

“I’m not sure what the guy did with the baby but the baby was picked up safely.”

Another resident, named only as Zara, told The Independent that a woman was forced to tossed her son, from a fifth- or sixth-floor window to escape.

“One woman actually threw her son out of the window. I think he’s OK. I think he might have just had some broken bones and bruises,” she told radio station LBC.

Pictures from the scene showed flames engulfing the block and a plume of smoke visible across the capital, while others showed residents looking out of windows in the block.
