Saudi-led airstrikes claim 136 lives in 10 days in Yemen

Geneva [Switzerland]: At least 136 civilians were killed in airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen in 10 days.

The United Nations has expressed concerns over intensified airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition.

A spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville in a news conference in Geneva on Tuesday said, “We are deeply concerned at the recent surge in civilian casualties in Yemen.”

The recent wave of violence began in the country following the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanaa on December 4.

“136 civilians and non-combatants were killed and some 87 injured as a result of airstrikes in Sanaa, Saada, Al Hudaydah and Taizz governorates in the period from December 6 to 16,” Colville said.

According to UN, a total of 5558 civilians have been killed and 9,065 others injured in Yemen since March 2015. (ANI)
