The Kingdom is hosting for Umrah for the American student Ahmed Mohammed who was recently wrongfully arrested after a teacher mistook his homemade clock for a bomb.
His arrival date has not been confirmed yet. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Hassan is of Sudanese origin , he would also visit his relatives in Jeddah during his trip.
The Sudanese community Awad Qarshom, said “We appreciate this decision by the Kingdom. We intend to have a reception to honor this student. We are trying to cooperate with the Sudanese Consulate in Jeddah to set up a special event.”
The President Barak Obama also expressed his support and invited him to visit the White House with his clock.
Other politicians and activists, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also expressed there support to Al-Hassan.
Al-Hassan was a student at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, when he was arrested in September as the teachers feared that the homemade clock he brought in to school that day could have been an explosive device and alerted police. His teacher suspected his clock was a bomb.
