Saudi govt decides to unblock calling facility of WhatsApp, other apps

Riyadh: Government of Saudi Arabia on Thursday issued a directive to remove the block on calling facility of WhatsApp, Viber, IMO and Skype.

According to the report published in Arab News, Abdullah Al-Sawaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, on Wednesday said that apps met the regulatory requirement and can be unblocked so that users can avail the facility from 20th September.

He also said that this step is in line with “Customer Comes First” policy of the ministry.
Reacting to the decision of Saudi Government, Zafar Hasan, Riyadh-based Software Engineer said that it is a “very helpful initiative” for both citizens and expatriates.

Talking to newsmen, Saquib Hamza, a recruitment executive from Dammam said that as many expatriates are working in Saudi Arabia and spend huge amounts on telephone bills, therefore, this step of Ministry will benefit all.

This step will not only benefit locals and expatriates, it will also benefit corporate as it will facilitate video conferencing.

It may be mentioned that the number of smartphone users in Kingdom is globally among the highest.
