Riyadh, January 22: Saudi Arabia’s top religious body has begun taking steps to curb the misuse of fatwas by incompetent bodies.
The Saudi Senior Scholars Commission has initiated serious deliberations to work out a unified regulation for issuing fatwas and prevent the rampant practice of issuing religious edicts by incompetent scholars on satellite channels and electronic websites. Shaikh Abdullah Al Monie, member of the Commission and adviser to the Saudi Royal Court, said that the Commission meeting, slated for January 30, will take a decision on unified regulations for issuance of fatwas.
Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Shaikh Abdul Aziz Al Shaikh said that the unified fatwa issue was examined by the Commission earlier and a decision was taken but it has yet to be implemented.
