Saudi abducts, tries to rape woman injured in crash

Jeddah, November 14: Police in Jeddah have arrested a Saudi man who allegedly kidnapped and tried to rape a 20-year-old Saudi woman involved in a car accident. He posed as a good Samaritan when the limousine she was traveling in met with the accident on the Haramain Expressway. She was on her way home.

The man is accused of taking her to his friend’s house after promising to rush her to hospital after the ambulance took a long time to reach the scene. Police said he convinced her that he was taking her to his house because his wife was an expert in providing traditional treatment for injuries and fractures. The man allegedly stopped his car in front of a residential building in the Jamia district and took her inside the house.

The woman could not see his wife there and realized that she had been tricked. Police said when she saw him locking the door and then tried to rape her, she resisted and screamed out for help. She managed to run away from the flat and informed police.

Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, security spokesman for Jeddah police, said police units arrested the man two hours after she was kidnapped.

He said Jeddah police chief Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Ghamdi directed police teams to apprehend the suspect, who escaped in his speeding car. Police patrol teams were able to locate the car and arrest him. Jamia police referred the case to the Investigation and Public Prosecution Bureau.
