Minor Irrigation Minister TG Venkatesh today said the government was intending to link up Lift Irrigation and Drift Irrigation Projects in the State.
Addressing the media at Secretariat, Venkatesh said a Satellite study was going on and the government would take steps after submission of its report. If the project becomes operational, another four lakh acres will get irrigation waters, taking the total to 14 lakh acres, he maintained. The Centre would provide financial assistance to the project and it is for the state government to make optimum use of the funds for this crucial project.
Jharkhand Irrigation Minister Annapurna Devi visited some of the projects in the State and appreciated the government’s commitment towards irrigation sector. She said Jharkhand State, which is infested with Maoists, could not be developed as expected even after the State formation 13 years ago. Now the Jharkhand Government is focusing on developing the State and priority would be given to irrigation and welfare, she added. (NSS)
